Review:
Nathan takes up one last odd job of a transportation assignment, even that meant going back to Teal County to which he shares a strange frequency thereby estranged from it and why not he would be handsomely paid for it..Seemed like an easy and harmless job at the outset , but things take a different turn as his attitude does not match with tranquility of Teal County..He is arrested and before he knows he is bailed out which take him by surprise, why was  he followed for such a small assignment with so much of effort...As a precaution he keeps his consignment to be delivered with him and there begins a web of issues that involved even F.B.I...He has to unravel the puzzle himself to save his neck and his best friends...

The plot was quite engaging and crisply edited..There were no unwanted para or dialogues that seemed out of place...Character were all well placed be it the protagonist Nathan with his dare devil , don't care attitude, to Emily the free spirited adventure seeker, Aiden was a true friend in need who was my favorite in the story...Illegal activities wrapped in the name of high profile transaction are presented well keeping up latest scenario..Drug, black money, sex all adorn the story with power packed  storyline..teal county hides lot of mystery in its silent and modest outset...Suspense was done well keeping up with the thriller twists and turns...The book gets my high point for its sprinting plot and execution...The book is best for a fast paced read ...

Summary
Bankers build their careers on trust, or so everyone thinks, till a series of murders threaten to destroy the reputation that the Greater Boston Global Bank (GB2) has built over the years. Who is behind these killings, and what is their motive?

When Karan Panjabi, press reporter and ex-banker, digs deeper, he realizes that he has stumbled upon a global conspiracy with far reaching ramifications a secret that could not only destroy the bank but also cast a shadow on the entire nation. With only thirty-six hours at his disposal, he must fight the clock and trust no one if he is to stay alive and uncover the truth.

Review
The dedication page of the book says "To all the banksters out there, playing a game with customer's trust"  ,I knew  there would something unique about the book and I was on a power packed thriller right from the beginning..The novel begins in Angola in the diamond mine alluring people into the trap of big money in less time swirling around but then suddenly the novel comes down to Kerala with an alleged reports of Ivory smuggling, then swiftly turns to Mumbai in a Bank office of GB2 with Vikram a ruthless, manipulative corporate slave who wants to be ahead of the crowd by taking any path, with no sense of honesty and integrity...Then there are murders in a row which is taken up by Karan Punjabi, an investigative reporter from Times of India he happens to be an ex-bank employee , but he soon realizes that the murders hold a key to deeper secrets interwoven across the globe with power packed mafia working under cover involving the big names in the world...

Subramaniam has played with a very unusual plot and he is quiet comfortable with it (with his banking background)..He has played well in creating a thrilling plot with suspense plus subplots running parallel  that holds key to the larger picture...While there are ruthless character like Vikram there are characters like Krishna Menon and Jayachandran who are down to earth  fighting for larger good...Subramaniam has created realtime characters like Zinaida, Tanuja, Indrani who give the story a touch of reality with various shades of human life...Though Vikram's entry solving the mystery in about 48 hrs was a bit too much for me, yet his sense and sensibility with a way of dealing things appealed to me...

The book swiftly transported across  the globe starting from Angola moving on to Kerala then to Mumbai  and places like middle east, US, Austria, Germany like a jet setter swishing away...Subramaniam has kept the subject upto date dealing with Nuclear power station and its effect on people, though not digging things in detail...My only let off was that the characters lacked depth, there were too many of them throughout that Subramaniam couldn't do much to develop and highlight them...

Through the novel Subramaniam has explored the darker side of the corporate banks, their working style that questions about the work ethics and principles..I haven't read Subramaniam's earlier work, and this one was a very refreshing read for me..Everyday Hinglish spread throughout the book was amusing at places...Interesting storyline with a good suspense, thriller makes it for a wonderful read...Read it for the feel of an Indian suspense thriller...

Summary:
In Chicago, the name Jon Elliot garners attention. When the legal mastermind offers to mentor Alexis Winters, Bingham, Elliot and Bright's newest associate, she jumps at the opportunity sure this will launch her career. But Jon has a dark side, one that demands unquestioning loyalty and a willingness to defy the spirit of the law, if not the latter..
Thrust into Jon's world and expected to play by his rulebook, Alexis grapples with her conscience. On several occasions, Jon's orders are at odds with what she learned in law school, and she finds herself trapped between her profession's ethical rules and her own values..

Review:
In spite being a A-list student in law school she somehow hates  appearing in the court room, she prefers the research and paper work, investigations related to the work.. Working with clients was another art  she loved...When her initial excitement of working under Jon Elliot the partner of  the premier law firm Elliot and Bright, she sees the darker part of being a lawyer ..AgriPro a client of the firm has a lot to hide...AgriPro is just an ally that leads to a chain of  political and power games..Trying to get to the bottom of it will only cost her life and everything she holds dear..

Alexis as a character would appeal to any reader, she is talented, intelligent, struggling to live up to to the ethical code she was brought up with in a world where ethics and integrity is written only in theory and never put in practice...Even when Alexis didn't approve of Jon's way of life she was in awe for the attorney in him...Jon was decisive and quite good at it even when he decides to go for the wrong people, for him defending or working of the clients was important not the morale side of it...A real harsh taskmaster, he wanted his rules to be followed with no questions, that left Alexis more irritated than happy to be working with him... Time and again she questions her own ethical sense while handling certain case..She quickly realizes that she is living in a world of grey and not in black and white..And she realizes as she quotes
“I still think the same way, but I’ve learned to temper my thoughts and opinions. I don’t agree with what many people do, but since most people live that way, I guess I’ve learned to live with reality. It doesn’t change how I feel inside, though. I just keep it to myself.” (p-30)

Out of blue Ryder Prescott an investigative journalist and Alexis teenage fantasy comes crashing into her life...Their relationship blossoms oh so quickly....Alexis and Ryder get together to unravel the secrets , a game and a gamble where she can trust none...Along the way we are also introduced to Alexis twin sister Allyson quite the opposite of Alexis she drops in the right moment through the plot filling in the gaps...

The book moves swift with its share of twist and turns..It goes for an easy breezy read exploring the choices of life we make for the sake of success and a comfortable life... The synopsis was quite intriguing but I must admit I was little let down as the story didn't really live up to the hype of the synopsis....Johnson has done a pretty good job in developing the character fast..Their internal struggle to live their dreams against their beliefs is something that readers would love...Yet there were moments which were completely amazing..The story sprinted away so fast that I couldn't get the hang of it many a times...Short and crisp with lost love and suspense with good storyline is what I would sum up Dilemma...

Excerpt

“No wonder you look dynamite.”
Alexis was thankful the darkness hid her blush. “Thank you, but I exercise because it relieves stress and helps clear my mind.”
Ryder hummed in agreement while taking her hand as they walked through a small park. “Litigating is a demanding job. Do you like it?”
“Parts of it.” A puff of wind blew hair into her face, and she turned slightly toward Ryder, using his body as a buffer. He tugged her a little closer and tightened his hold on her hand. “I love researching. It makes me feel good when I find the needle in the haystack that helps win a case. Plus I like piecing together new theories and setting new precedents. I don’t like the actual court part, though. I mean, I like creating the arguments but hate making them in front of the judge. It’s nerve-racking.” She frowned, thinking about her stomach’s gymnastics each time she set foot in a courtroom.
“What made you choose defense work?” Ryder brushed a small branch aside so it wouldn’t hit her and led her toward a stone bench set back from the walking path.
“I guess you could say it chose me. I really liked criminal law in school and I was good at it. I won several awards for my studies in that area. But when time came to apply for jobs, I just couldn’t go in that direction. I didn’t want to do criminal defense because I couldn’t handle helping people who I thought were guilty even if they were entitled to representation. Prosecuting appealed to me, but it also scared me. What if I put someone innocent away? It seemed like too much responsibility.” She looked down at her hands, uncomfortable with her own admission. It wasn’t like her to share her innermost thoughts with other people. They were supposed to remain locked deep inside her. So why was she sharing her fears with Ryder of all people? She pushed that thought aside for later analysis as she tuned back into the conversation.
“So, why employment discrimination?” Ryder wrapped an arm around her, and she snuggled closer to him, appreciating his warmth and how good he smelled. It had been quite a while since she had enjoyed a man’s company in this way.
Alexis leaned her head against his shoulder and thought about how to answer. She considered giving him the canned answer she used during interviews, but the quiet intimacy of the moment allowed her to admit the truth. “I guess because it’s similar to criminal work in many ways without the safety risk or responsibility.”
“Why defense instead of plaintiff work?”
She laughed softly. “Because they offered me a job and I get paid well. I’d love to work on the plaintiff side or do pro bono work, but I have bills to pay.”
“Still the idealist, though?” His fingers played in her hair, and she closed her eyes, relishing the sensation. “Even though you’re swimming with sharks?”
She could tell he was teasing by the tone of his voice. “I don’t work with sharks, but I suppose I have changed. How could I not?” They sat in silence for a few minutes while she contemplated how to explain. “I still think the same way, but I’ve learned to temper my thoughts and opinions. I don’t agree with what many people do, but since most people live that way, I guess I’ve learned to live with reality. It doesn’t change how I feel inside, though. I just keep it to myself.”
“It’s hard to keep the values we learned at home alive. Time after time, I’ve tried to do the right thing, to report the truth, to showcase wrongs, but more often than not, I either get slammed for it or find out no one really cares. Sometimes I wonder why I pick myself up and do it all over again.”
“But you do.” Alexis tilted her head up and stared at Ryder, the moonlight highlighting his face and betraying how seriously he took the conversation. “I admire you for it.”
“Thank you,” Ryder breathed as he lowered his mouth to hers. The first kiss was soft and gentle, nothing more than a light touch of lips saying hello. The second had considerably more heat behind it and left her breathless. He lifted her chin and stared into her eyes as if seeking permission. Alexis trembled under his heated gaze. She knew what he was asking and didn’t know if she had the strength to deny him—or the courage to survive the aftermath. Ryder was a love ’em and leave ’em type, and she was a commitment kind of girl. Could she accept the night for what it was and live in the moment?

"Lack of evidence does not imply lack of existence. In 1610 there was no evidence of the sun being at the centre of the solar system.. Five years later, the Roman Inquisition tried Galilieo for proposing such a preposterous theory.... Did it mean that the solar system, as we know it today, did not exist?A few hundred  years is all that it takes to accept new evidence." (p-14)....

Ravi Mohan Saini popular Professor of History of Mythology at St. Stephen's College in New Delhi, is arrested on the charge of murder, he is taken aback as murdered Anil Varshney happens to be one of his best friends....Varshney had handed over a seal, just before hw was murdered, this seal was one among the four, together constituting The Krishna's Key..Other keys are with Devendra Chhedi, the genetics expert, Dr. Nikhil Bhojraj , Professor Rajaram Kurkure..Varshney's unfathomable death has made Saini the prime suspect...Saini had promised to guard the seal with his life, escaping police custody he rushes to other three only to find that the hunter is always one step ahead of him making the whole a thriller game...The murder weapon carries Saini's initial is only deepening his whole array of list of trouble. His time is running out of  time, retrieving the seal and key now seems bigger than a Himalayan task..

From the beginning of the novel, you get the feeling of Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code.. Though it may not be fair to compare both yet you cannot shake off the similarity that they bring in....The readers can enjoy Krishna's key in a different plateau all together...Sanghi has done great research for this novel and that comes across beautifully without putting off the readers from sanskrit jargons...Sanghi has intertwined many known facts and unknown myths to take the novel ahead..Even when I could predict the next turn along the story, the book kept me interested with all the rich Indian myth...For a person foreign to Indian mythology like Mahabharata, and verses of Sanskrit, Sanghi has run a story parallel to give the readers a glimpse of who, what, and where....

I love it when Indian authors go ahead and take such storyline for their novel...The avatar of Krishna in Kaliyug is also painted well..Details of Vedic age and its relevance in modern era is done to perfection...Indian myth with a thriller suspense cocktail was a heady mix for me, yet all along you miss the otherwise awesome writing of Sanghi that you got to read in his earlier book Chanakya Chant....If Sanghi could do something about the loosening of the plots towards the closing of this book , we would have had a super blockbuster...My only problem with the novel was when the whole story that was headed to a higg five suddenly made its turn to Taj Mahal and somehow I felt the author lost the depth from then on....Still I wanted to read on to know what was in store...Though Saini would take on the first place among the favorite characters, both Radhika and Priya went well with me highlighting the brighter and greyer part of life....With all pretension gone the novel ends well...Through Saini, all about different aspects of Indian myth and history comes across well..Saini's love of history is quite contagious as is the dedication of Radhika towards her work...
This book is for anyone who loves historic fiction and Indian myth....

In the end, MaryLou’s dark secret will either save him or kill him -- whichever comes first

Review
I started off the book without reading the synopsis...So I imagined the book to be about a kidnapped lovers who would find love and life, but then came a lonely private investigator Nick Sibelius..He sets on investigating the missing couple hired by the girl's father..Things get on an interesting turn with the next character Junior with his weird bad luck of people dying around him., including his who dies in front of him stepping on some farm equipment, he kills a drunken trespassing his property, he even shoots at a hot air balloon flying over his property..Nick discovers the missing couple's motorcycle but does not find a clue about them...Junior is in league with Barry Swenson  an ex-dentist involved in toxic waster dumping  and methamphetamine distribution..This has left Junior paranoid over anyone seen around his property...Junior  further gets in trouble as he threatens one of his school mate to drown to death..To add further twist , Mary beautiful reporter appears..Nick and Mary fall for each other fast, even before he gets grip over things around him,he becomes the target to be killed..Time is running out Nick has to figure out some way to save himself and wrap up the case and to get back a life that he lost, he tries harder fighting all with every ounce of his energy but loses Mary to death...By the end Nick is contemplating his brief time with Mary with gratitude, he believes that she brought him back to life away from his loneliness , that is when he eyes on a parcel that he has received ..A mail and parcel gives him lead thus opening up for the next book in the series..

Hacker has developed the plot neatly, things flow well from chapter to chapter..Nick who has come to Pflugerville, Texas, to find peace and get back to life ,gets an interesting case but then he suddenly is chasing in a power packed race only to discover that from chasing ,his role is shifted to being chased, adding of romance really brought some wonderful moments in the otherwise suspense thriller..Mary is very likable with her determined and face it all attitude carrying a lot of secrets to be unveiled..Those secrets would well go to next  part of the book...The book is highly entertaining with fun and good humor..To get further effect of the novel do read this without going through the synopsis of the book, you would end up enjoying it even better...

Excerpt

Nick’s pulse quickened at the distinctive two part sound of a 12 gauge shell being chambered.  He threw his car in reverse, the big V-8 roaring, tires eating into the dirt track, a cloud of dust enveloping him, as he put the truck between himself and the shotgun. A blast, shattering the passenger side glass, sprayed across his seat, but Nick had already opened his door, rolling out onto the ground. He made his way to the back tire, listening for Junior Pendleton’s position. Junior made it easy.
“Get the hell off my property, goddammit. You got no right to be here.”
Crouching, Nick used the rear of his truck for cover. Junior had walked up to Nick’s pick up,  sticking his head through the shot out window. Nick rushed him from behind, slamming him hard into the truck, the shotgun firing into the ground by Junior’s feet.
Junior screamed, “Sonofabitch. My damn foot. Son-of-a-bitch.”
Nick kept Junior jammed into the window, ripping the gun away from the farmer’s hand. As Junior continued to struggle, cursing, Nick noticed several pellet holes clearly visible in the man’s worn cowboy boots.
“I don’t think that’s how you want to start this conversation, Junior.”
